Life is a Circus!

life-is-a-circus-016Hello there All! I bet you can relateto Life is a Circus! It sure does seem like that from time to time.  There’s clowns running around, someone on the highwire(maybe us), a Queen Goldfish floating around, and you, in awe of the One-der of it all!circus-girl-face

This is how I have been feeling lately, and thought it’d be fun to put it into a painting. I love the sweetness I was able to capture in the girl, and all her wild curly hair. admit-one

Her pocket says Admit One because when it comes down to it, that’s all we really are in charge of, ourselves.  If each person took care of themselves, their One, then the whole, the ONE would be so much better. gold-fish-queen circus-girl-print high-wire

Until that happens, let’s try to take care of our own circus, and enjoy the show!

Prints will be available soon!

Cute Butterfly Journal Tutorial

In this tutorial I am sharing how to take a plain ole journal and Jazz it Up a bit!

Hi guys n gals! As many of you know, I love butterflies.  It’s one of God’s magical creations.  I made this little butterfly journal the other days and I thought I’d show you how I did it!

I started off with this small journal I picked up on the clearance rack at BAM. I think I paid $3 for it.  It was boring, but just the right size for my purse, so I grabbed it and thought ‘I’ll just jazz it up later’. It sat around my studio for a while, but I finally got around to it.

First step was to select a color scheme. I went through my paper stash and picked some papers I liked, then selected some paints to compliment the papers.

DownloadsNext, I put decoupage glue all over the canvas.  I like to use the deco glue because it dries quickly, and seals at the same time.IMG_20130906_165924_080

Then I just started adding the papers, tearing and placing them where it felt right, and glued them down with the deco glue.

After the paper is glued down and dry, I added some paint to the back cover, and around the edges of the paper. I smeared it on the edges to give it a bit of a blend. Next, I added some texture using recycled materials as stencils, just to give some interest, and then put the butterflies on with the deco glue.

After the main elements were in place, I added some shadowing, and ink to give a bit of an aged look, and used the white paint pen for highlights.

The final steps were to add some tape embellishments, stamps, and rub-ons until I was happy with the layered look I was going for.  Then, I sealed the whole thing with the deco glue.  I love it!

Now I have a cute place to keep my notes and sketches!  Next time you see a plain ole journal on the clearance table, snatch it up, take it home…and Jazz it Up!  Thanks for stopping by my blog. I hope you enjoyed this post.

A New Place and Space….

Thank you so much for stopping by to visit my webite/blog!

As many of you know, I have been working as an artist for some time now, trying to build my brand, get my name out there.  Now, I think it is time for a website.  A home base, of sorts, where I can create a space for my art, meet friends, get to know you all, and share my thoughts.  A place where we can visit, and get to know one another and I am so pleased you are here.

I’d like this to be a place to communicate and network with each other. A community where we can inspire and uplift one another.  I will be sharing ideas of other artists, things that inspire me, and tutorials from time to time, and of course, my own artwork.

It means so much to me that you have taken a few moments out of your day to check out my website.  I am really really happy that you are here.  No…..really, I am.  Poke around, check it out… tell me what you think.

St. Pete Art Mash

St. Pete Art Mash

I was able to show some of my work at the St. Pete Art Mash last night.  It was great to meet some other artists, and share ideas.

Hidden Truths

This is one of my newest pieces. It is called Hidden Truths. I painted it when I was going through a difficult time in my life. She can’t open the book of Truth because she’s can’t move and she can’t get out of the cage, she’s stuck. So, she has closed her eyes to the reality of it all.

Art Mash

It was great fun to do the show with my son Milo Rossi. He’s a fantastic artist too! Those are his pieces on the right, next to a few  of mine, on the left.

Milo's Owl

This owl is another one of Milo’s. I’m a proud Mom, what can I say!

This is a new piece I finally finished, after working on it off-n-on for almost a year. I don’t know what took me so long…it was just a progressive piece, that had a lot of emotion in it.

It is called “Lost” because that is how I was feeling. I was going through a rough patch in my life, due to my mother’s illness. I felt like I had lost my compass, and didn’t know which way to go. The birds, symbolizing my guardians, were trying to show me that I had to get across the bridge…just cross the bridge.

The piece is now complete, and hanging in Enchanted Notions, in St. Petersburg, FL.

Tribal Gypsy

Tribal Gypsy

It’s been a while since my last post on this blog. Life got a bit overwhelming. My mother was very ill over the summer, and I went to take care of her and I’m happy to report she’s much better now. My daughter got married in October, and as you an imagine, that took all my attention for a while. It seems that things are now creeping back to a state of normal, and for that I am grateful.

Being able to spend a little more time in the studio lately has made me happy and allowed me to create this beautiful Tribal Gypsy. I love her, she seems earthy and grounded.  I have recently been asked to show my work in another gallery, Enchanted Notions, in St. Petersburg, and I took her there yesterday along with a few other new pieces.  Christy, the owner of Enchanted Notions, is incredibly wonderful, and so supportive.  I can’t express how grateful I am that we have met, and become friends.  I adore her.  I am SUPER excited to break into the St. Pete art scene, and it just feels right (if ya know what I mean). So if you are in the St. Pete area, go check out her shop, where she has many treasures and trinkets for you to enjoy.

My Flickr account has been compromised, not sure how that happened, but I will have to get to work on reloading all my pics (which is going to take a minute).

Prints will be available of all of my work soon on Etsy. I’ll give a shout out when that happens.

Thanks for stopping by, and have a WONDERful day!

Playing in the Paint

I have been working on some pretty intense paintings for a while now, requiring a lot of my attention.  But, for the last two days, I decided to take a break from all that and play in the paint for a bit.

I love to do mixed media work, playing with materials, and seeing what develops.  The painting just seems to grow on its own.  I had a lot of fun with the ideas, and all the bright colors….and created some new fun pieces.
